Kathy & Russ Oathout

As promised...family and friends...here is an update on Russ' week: Russ had biopsy surgery on Tuesday and Dr. Marrow took ten specimens...and Russ recovered well with only a couple pain pills. On Wednesday, we met with Dr. Knipe (oncologist) for the first time. You should know that Dr. Knipe is what we prayed for in a doctor for this time and place. Doctor was personable and professional and let us ask questions (of course, I had a list) and answered every question. Then Dr. Knipe said this is our plan going forward: you will have radiation five times a week for seven weeks; you will have chemo once a month for three hours and we will be putting a feeding tube in your stomach until you are able to swallow again. Swallowing even shakes is getting difficult and I have been worried about Russ' nutrition for months. I was grateful for what the Doctor said... as well as what he did not say. Russ' weight is down from 273 to 206 so you can see how important it is to build him up during this treatment. So Russ is set for first radiation on Tuesday (8th) at 1 pm and first chemo on (15th) at 10 am...still waiting on date for feeding tube surgery.

Russ is very lonely so at this point...SHORT phone calls would be appreciated. If you are in St. Pete and want to stop by for a short but welcome visit....please call first, to see how he is feeling. Phone numbers can be provided through the church office. You should also know that because of the pain, he sometimes has to take a sleeping pill and has been getting up late mornings.

What can you do? We are writing to you because you - are our prayer warriors in the days ahead...for treatments he can handle and for healing. Thank you for standing with us.... Love, Russ & Kathy
